The Georgian National University SEU was established in 2001 and was formerly called as the Ilia Chanchavadze National University of Georgia. Since 2007 the university has offered the advanced standard structure to its students on the new location, and from that point forward, the university area is in the historical part of Tbilisi. In 2009 the Georgian National University was authorized by the National Accreditation Center. In 2014 the university was approved as per the new authorization standard until 2020. There are 133 faculties at the university and 97 assistant professors.
